The Community Mile is an innovative programme delivered in partnership with grass roots organisations to support vulnerable communities. We use our ‘Mile’ ethos as a vehicle to make a positive difference to people’s lives, working to bring communities together, encouraging more open conversations and improving overall wellbeing, all by doing ‘Their Mile, Their Way.’ We work closely with your organisation and allocated Champions to tailor The Community Mile, ensuring it meets the specific needs of your community members – whatever they may be!
For many of these groups, for various reasons, they don’t feel able to, or ready to participate in any physical activity. The Community Mile helps to break down these barriers, providing that important first step and offering a nurturing, supportive and safe environment to help them get started on their physical activity journey!
What we do
Through The Community Mile programme, we provide an intensive 3-month package of training and support, to provide organisations with the necessary knowledge, skills, and empowerment to implement The Community Mile within their settings, to their specific communities.
We will train a group of dedicated Champions to motivate the community, supporting them to adopt a social prescribing approach through open conversations and active listening, as well as handholding and signposting people within the community to local support services – particularly those often underutilised by the communities they are designed to support.
We then provide a further 3 months light touch support, ensuring organisations have fully embedded The Mile and that their community is one step closer to living a healthier, happier, and more active life! Each organisation participating in The Community Mile becomes part of The Mason Mile’s network, where they will receive regular updates, newsletters, and invitations to quarterly champions workshops. We also invite everyone to be part of our wider community by joining our private, online group, where we offer a safe, supportive space for Milers to connect with other like-minded people from all different walks of life.
