The Family Mile Nature Play Course with Abbey Wood Children’s Centre

This Autumn, our amazing team of Ambassadors will be working alongside, Abbey Wood Children’s Centre to provide some fantastic outdoor nature fun! With thanks to our partners Vinci Facilities and Peabody Trust, we are running a 4-week all-weather course for pre-schoolers and their parents within the local community.
Abbey Wood Children’s Centre provides health advice, stay and play activities, courses for adults and support services for local families with children aged 0-5 years. From crafts and rhymes to stories and activities for all, Abbey Wood Children’s Centre plays a huge part in supporting the local community and bringing people together.
This fantastic course has been put together for parents and their 2- 4-year-olds who want to:
- Enjoy exploring the woodland together
- Get physically active
- Develop understanding of the natural world
- Use rich experiences of nature as a stimulus for developing communication and language
- Experience the psychological benefits of spending time in nature
You and your children will be taken through the woods by Abbey Wood Children’s Centre on an interactive walk-in nature, followed by a snack, story and sharing of experiences.
The course is set out over a 4-week period, come rain or shine and will include some fantastic and fun outdoor activities for your little ones, including; a mini beast hunt, making an elf house, creating autumn leaf crowns, acorn gathering and micro hikes.
In line with our existing mission of helping and encouraging communities to get out and enjoy a healthier and more active lifestyle, the aim of this course is to support parents and carers to feel more confident when taking their children on their own active adventures in nature beyond these interactive workshops. On completion of the course, all participants will receive a certificate and a guide to some ideas for outdoor learning activities to help continue the exploration of the outdoors beyond the course.
